The Commitee for Free and Fair Elections in Cambodia (COMFREL) are using Freedom Fone to assist with election monitoring and to promote democratic processes amongst the general public.
COMFREL started using Freedom Fone officially in September 2011 with a service focused on the annual voter registration (October to December 2011).
The election period in 2012 and 2013 will see a service providing a recorded message on how to register to vote, polling day, political parties contesting in elections and other relevant information. Additionally, it will allow callers to ask questions or report any irregularities.
COMFREL will then respond to questions directly and report of irregularities.
Cambodia held commune council elections in June 2012 and expects to hold general elections mid-2013.
